Carmel Arts and Design District

Carmel on Canvas Plein Air Painting Event provides artists with 3 days of plein air painting, within the Carmel Arts & Design District.

Early registration is $40 and registration the days of the event will be $50. We are awarding a total of $5,000 in awards with any sales going 100% to artists. Artists may paint Friday and Saturday and submit one framed work for judging at the Artist's Reception Saturday at the Indiana Design Center. The awards for this event will be $4,000, including $1,000 for Best of Show.

Sunday, we will follow with the QUICK PAINT Sunday for artists 14 and older with awards totalling $1,000. Registration for this event will be $15, payable Sunday at registration. The Carmel Artists Association will also assist with the student section for the Paint Out. Registration for that event will be free with awards announced at the registration.

7:30 - 10am
Check in at Eye On Art Gallery. All painting surfaces used during the Carmel on Canvas Paint Out must be stamped on the back for the event before you start painting. Stamping will occur at the Eye On Art Gallery. Unstamped painting surfaces are not eligible for awards. Painting surfaces where painting has begun will not be stamped. Surfaces for the Quick Paint event can only be stamped on the morning of the Quick Paint event. Packets will be available withmap for painting locations, restaurant coupons, name tags, etc. If you have not pre-registered ($40) you may register at this time, but the fee will be $50.

Paint all day. All paintings must be completed in the Arts and Design District (see map) Sales are encouraged. 100% of sales go to the artist. No fees charged. You are encouraged to frame and sell the works completed for the paint out. No other display panels are allowed. Remember, this is a paint out and not an art fair.

7:30 - 10 am
Eye On Art Gallery will be open for additional stamping and registration.

4:00 pm
Submit only one work for judging. Framed works should be turned in at the Indiana Design Center displayed on easel or paint box for judging. Paintings may be signed and cards and brochures are allowed. There will be three areas for display, including professional, amateur and student art.

Judging will begin. Artists are encouraged to leave the area of judging between 5 - 6pm

Reception for artists and public. Artists are welcome to be in area of their painting to discuss and sell to public. Paintings must remain on display for Awards Presentation.

Awards Presentation. Artists in the Professional and Amateur division must be present to win. All works will need to be removed at the end of the reception

11:00am to Noon
Check in at Eye On Art Gallery to have painting surfaces stamped for QUICKDRAW. Registration fee is $10. This event is open to anyone, over the age of 14, who wishes to participate and has their own supplies and easels. There will be no delineation between amateur or professional. All artists may use any medium, but must paint in the plein air tradition. Awards will total $1,000.

LOCATION: The QUICK PAINT will be held in a designated area. Maps will be furnished.

A horn will sound and artists may begin painting en plein air style on any subject. No pre-painted or pre-drawn materials are allowed. The QUICK PAINT artwork must be created during the 1.5 hour time frame. 
The horn will sound and the artists will deliver their just completed artwork and easels to the exhibit/sale area for the judging and sale. Framing is optional, but always makes for a better presentation.

JUDGING/AWARDS: All artists must be set up for judging by 2:00 PM. Judging and Awards will follow.
