Arts & Design District Welcomes Interior Design Company to Area
Carmel, IN – DesignSense, a unique interior design company, is now open in the Carmel Arts & Design District. The design studio and showroom is located at 254 1st Avenue, SW, one and a half blocks south of Main Street, east of the Monon Trail.
DesignSense services include space planning, including both commercial and residential, upholstery and renovation/updating of antiques, decorative finishes for walls and furniture, and custom furniture and draperies.
The philosophy of owner Patty Costlow is to “bring the client’s vision to life” through the use of innovative materials. Costlow, who recently designed the Subterra Lounge and ICE Ultra Lounge on South Meridian Street, focuses on the innovative mix of bold colors, fabrics, wall textures and distinctive furniture.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Patty and DesignSense to the Arts & Design District. Her unique sense of design, innovative style and quality of work make her the ideal fit for the Arts & Design District,” said Mayor Jim Brainard.
DesignSense adds to the growing number of interior design, home décor, boutiques and gift shops relocating to and opening in the area.
“We chose the Arts & Design District because of the endless opportunities it offers - from the unique buildings, retailers, design studios, galleries and overall vision Mayor Brainard has cast for the downtown of Carmel,” said Costlow.
Patty Costlow has been involved with interior design for more than 20 years with experience in the following areas: space planning (residential and commercial), furniture design, decorative finishes, stage and set design and drapery design and fabrication. Her background lies in mechanical engineering, interior architectural design and stage and set design. She began DesignSense in 2003 and operated out of her home until opening her showroom in the Arts & Design District this year.
Paulette Boncutter, DesignSense business partner with Costlow, has more than 30 years experience in the antiques industry. Boncutter, who has previously owned shops in Madison and Noblesville, has an extensive knowledge of antiques, art, fabrics and the renovation of antiques.
