Carmel Arts & Design District Welcomes Fall with Gallery Walk
Carmel’s free autumn event showcases local and international artists, edibles and entertainment

Sept. 2, 2008

Carmel, Ind. – On Saturday, Sept. 13 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., the galleries, storefronts and eateries of the Carmel Arts & Design District will open their doors again for the seasonal Gallery Walk. During this free event, galleries will host receptions featuring works by local and international artists, many offering customized hors d’oeuvres and signature drinks that reflect the theme of each location’s unique show. In addition, free carriage rides will be running in the District from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Guests can explore a string of eight galleries spanning Main Street, offering a diverse range of styles and mediums appealing to any taste. For example, renowned Indiana landscape and nature artist Ken Bucklew will be the featured guest artist at the Blue Egg Gallery. Magdalena Gallery of Art will feature a show called “Serendipity'” with the paintings of Cincinnati artist Charles Emory Ross. And Deborah DeFazio Lyons will offer live oil painting demonstrations, as well as special pricing for custom portrait orders placed during the Gallery Walk.

Crowe's Eye Photography Studio Gallery will feature "Shapes and Scapes," a group show of local Indianapolis Painters, including works of Katie Burk, Justin Cooper, John Crowe and Susan Hodgins. Down the street, Accent Details will showcase debuting artist Weslynn Kane’s pastels, oils and Native American art work in its new gallery space.

Shoppers can see the unveiling of the eighth J. Seward Johnson sculpture, “Who’s in Charge?” in front of the new Simply Sweet Shoppe at 6 p.m. The candy shop is celebrating its grand opening along with Second Story Playhouse on the second floor.

As a bonus, Soori Gallery plans a special sculpture dedication to coincide with the District event. Artist Sergei Joslin will be on hand for the unveiling of the sculpture, Spring Eternal, in front of Soori Gallery. He attends in the place of his father Jerry Joslin, the work’s artist, who passed away in November 2005. The statue will be unveiled by Carmel Redevelopment President and City Councilman Ron Carter at 7 p.m.

Other District businesses and eateries have also planned special events and sales to coincide with the Gallery Walk. Both Muldoon’s and Bistro de Paris will entertain guests with live music during the event. Carmel Arts Residences penthouse condominiums, located above the Evan Lurie Art Gallery, will also host an open house of available units during the event.
